ACU FC has recently been announced as Club of the Year at the 2022 ACU Sports and Performer Awards.
It caps off a fantastic season for the club which saw them win four pieces of silverware and have five our of their six teams compete in finals football.
With Australian Catholic University having over 60 sports clubs within the university, winning club of the year is a huge achievement. ACU FC were nominated in four categories over the evening, missing out on three categories before being announced as the major award winner near the end of the night.
To win Sports Club of the Year, a club must demonstrate success in an external competition, have high levels of student membership, have maintained a positive club culture, and boast a strong presence and level of involvement in life on campus.
Club Manager, Sonny Makko, said he was extremely pleased with the award: especially considering the club is only four years old.
“I am extremely proud of ACU FC winning Sports Club of the Year. Our club member work hard to make our club what it is: we have a great group of people who have helped make this possible,” said Makko.
“A big factor in this recognition is the club culture which we established from the outset. The club culture has helped us become a great club off the field, which has led to the success we achieved on the pitch this year.
“We have achieved many milestones in our first four years despite the two interrupted season due to the COVID pandemic. The future looks bright as we plan to add another two senior teams for 2023.”
In 2022, as well as five of their six teams competing in finals, ACU FC won the AA4 Championship, the AA11 Premiership and Championship, and the Strathfield Female Football Festival AAW5 Title.
In 2023 the club is looking to add another two senior teams and will be entering a team in the Australia Cup. To register your interest in the Australia Cup team, you can click this link.
