Four clubs from Football Canterbury will be competing in Round 3 of the Australia Cup this week.
With two clubs being drawn directly into Round 3 and two others winning their way from Round 2: clubs from our region have games on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday this week.
Roselands FC v Fraser Park FC
7:30pm Tuesday 21 March, Fraser Park, Marrickville
Roselands were drawn directly into Round 3 of the Australia Cup so will begin their campaign against FNSW League Two outfit, Fraser Park. Fraser Park currently sit in mid-table with two wins and two draws from six starts, but are coming off an impressive 3-0 victory over the previously undefeated UNSW.
This will be Roselands’ first competitive fixture of the season having come so close to glory in 2022: losing AA Sunday grand final to LFC Sports on penalties.
Quakers Hill JSC v Marrickville Red Devils
7pm Wednesday 22 March, Quakers Hill Park, Quakers Hill
Just like Roselands FC, Marrickville were drawn directly into Round 3 of the Australia Cup where they take on Quakers Hill JSC from the Blacktown Football Association.
Quakers Hill were very competitive in 2022, finishing in third position in the Blacktown Premier League before bowing out in straight sets in the finals: losing 1-0 to Doonside Hawks and then getting knocked out on penalties by Workers FC.
They earned their spot in Round 3 of the Australia Cup via a 3-1 victory over Thirroul JFC of Football South Coast.
Marrickville had a rebuilding year with a very young team in 2022, finishing in last place in the Bill Brackenbury Cup with two wins in 16 starts. Talk around the grounds is that they have strengthened this season and will be turning their fortunes around.
ACU FC v South Coast Flame
7:30pm Wednesday 22 March, Thomas Hassall Anglican College, Middleton Grange
ACU surprised the region with their blowout 4-0 victory over Fairfield Eagles in Round 2 of the Australia Cup and have been rewarded with a match-up against the strong South Coast Flame. It was the students’ first ever victory in the Australia Cup.
Playing in FNSW League Two, the Flame are flying high: sitting in the top five despite the recent resignation of their coach and are undefeated for over a month.
Balmain DFC v Dulwich Hill FC
6:45pm Thursday 23 March at Rudd Park, Belfield
Balmain DFC also earned their first ever victory in our national cup competition when they came from behind to defeated Hurstville Glory 3-1.
A daunting prospect in Dulwich Hill from FNSW League One wait for them in Round 3. The Hill are sitting mid-table with three wins and four losses from seven starts, most recently defeating Mounties Wanderers 4-3 with a 90th minute winner.
