BBC Midweek Review

Published Thu 15 Apr 2021

We were treated to a full round of fixtures across two jam-packed matchdays this week.

The ‘match of the round’ took place at Parry Park on Tuesday night as LFC Sports entertained Strathfield.

Both sides had enjoyed wins the opening round of the season with LFC getting over Abbotsford 2-0 at Campbell Park while Strathfield proved too strong for Marrickville as they triumphed 4-2.

It was the home side who started the brighter with Sam Messam getting on the scoresheet for the second week running.

It wasn’t long before the visitors replied with a spectacular Dan McCormack volley leveling the scoring.

True to the form book, it was Simon Burke who put his side in the lead for the first time in the contest with a well-timed header.

Their lead did not stay intact for too long as a long distance strike from Aman Hadid pegged it back at two apiece.

If you thought the scoring was over, you’d be sorely wrong. It was the away side who were able to regain the lead via Barry O’Connor with another volleyed effort… but the scoring was not done there…

After a scramble in the box, LFC slammed one home to rescue a point thanks to Ali Ghamloush’s improvised finish.

A point for both teams sees them remain undefeated as LFC prepare to play out of Parry again on Saturday as they host second from bottom Balmain while Strathfield are on the road at Campbell Park.

Enfield Rovers FC were left cheering on Wednesday night after they secured a 3-1 win over Abbotsford at Campbell Park.

That is now back-to-back victories for the men from Henley Park as they sit in second on the ladder.

Meanwhile, Abbotsford sit in eighth after consecutive defeats. They will be hoping to turn that around when they welcome Strathfield to Campbell Park while Rovers will be targeting a third win on the bounce when they host high-flying Inter.

A straightforward affair for Hurlstone Park saw them pick up a 3-0 win against Marrickville at Pratten Park.

That is now consecutive wins for Hurlstone Park as they gear up for a clash with Leichhardt Tigers at Lambert Park in the late kick off this Saturday.

Leichhardt made their experience count as they outmuscled Balmain to record a 4-1 triumph at Callan Park on Wednesday night.

A comfortable win will do wonders for their side following their defeat against Inter in the opening round.

Next up for them will be a home fixture with Hurlstone Park while Balmain meet Lakemba at Parry Park.

Meanwhile, one goal was enough for Inter Lions as they made it two wins from two as they saw off Cooks River Titans.
