BBC Review - Round 5

Published Mon 10 May 2021

Uncertain weather towards the end of the working week almost rained on our parade with three out of the five fixtures proceeding as per normal.

LFC Sports, Abbotsford and Leichhardt Tigers will be thankful that their fixtures went ahead as all three sides claimed wins from their respective fixtures.

Both LFC and Abbotsford secured consecutive wins for the first time this season while Leichhardt picked up a highly-prized clean sheet in their meeting with Strathfield.

Inter Lions’ clash with Balmain was postponed and is due to play at 7:30pm on May 19 at Ron Routley while Enfield and Cooks River Titans’ fixture will take place at Henley Park on May 25 with kick off scheduled for 7pm.

Marrickville – LFC Sports 1-2

LFC Sports registered back-to-back wins for the first time this season after they saw off Marrickville 2-1 at Mackey Park on Saturday afternoon.

It was the home side who went ahead early in this fixture with Alejandro Bonutto putting the Red Devils ahead just five minutes in.

That was it for the scoring in the first half before a half team talk must have done the trick for LFC who came out firing.

Francesco Giannetto levelled the scoring on 47 minutes before popping up again with the winning goal in the 90th minute.

The three points is enough to see the men from Parry Park go equal top of the ladder while Enfield’s superior goal difference sees them remain at the summit.

LFC can look forward to a home clash at Bennett against the Titans next weekend while Marrickville head to Campbell Park to go head to head against Abbotsford.

Hurlstone Park – Abbotsford 0-2

A profitable afternoon for Abbotsford saw them register a 2-0 win over Hurlstone Park on Saturday.

Abbotsford are now one of the form sides in the competition with three wins, one draw and two defeats to show from their six clashes to date.

This latest victory at Ewen Park will do them wonders as they look to continue their ascent up the table.

A John-Paul Foti goal just after the half hour mark broke the deadlock before Dario Espejel made sure of the points with his 70th minute strike.

Next up on the agenda for Abbotsford is a home tie with Marrickville while Hurlstone Park meet Balmain at Birchgrove Oval.

Strathfield – Leichhardt Tigers 0-3

Leichhardt Tigers posted a routine 3-0 victory over Strathfield in their highly-entertaining battle on Saturday afternoon.

Kailum Najjar got the scoring underway with his effort after just eight minutes before Lucas Cezar doubled their lead on the 31st minute mark.

It was then up to Marcelo Turdera to wrap up the scoring 10 minutes later as he sent his side into halftime with a more than comfortable score line.

The second half saw Strathfield push their hardest to reduce the deficit but they were ultimately unable to break through as Leichhardt recorded an incredibly sought after away clean sheet.

Leichhardt will turn their attention to their visit to Henley Park as they face off against Enfield while Strathfield will be looking to regroup ahead of their fixture against Inter Lions.
