Captains wearing armbands for Pride Round

Published Fri 23 Jun 2023

To highlight and support Football NSW’s inaugural Pride Round, captains across Football Canterbury competitions will wear rainbow armbands.

All captains in the Grace Martin Trophy - our top women's division - will be displaying armbands as a symbol of support as will the majority of captains in the Bill Brackenbury Cup - our top men's division.

Pride Round is this weekend, Friday 23 June to Sunday 25 June, and clubs are welcome to continue to wear the armbands in the future or pass them onto other teams in the club.

Chairman of Football Canterbury, Nick Kambounias, said the Association was proud to support Pride Round.

"Our vision and mantra at Football Canterbury is enriching the community through football,” said Kambounias.

“To live by that we must ensure we create and foster a football environment which is safe, inclusive, and enjoyable so that our members can have the best possible experience by just being themselves.

"We will always look at ways to break down barriers to ensure everyone who plays our game is treated with dignity and respect, hence our unwavering support behind Pride Round."
