Published Tue 18 Oct 2022

Enfield FC are aiming to win the Football NSW U16 Boys Champion of Champions for the first time in 23 years.

The Champion of Champions tournament is run by Football NSW where each competition winner from all of the associations play each other to find the best team in the state.

After defeating Lindfield FC 2-1 last weekend, Enfield FC have qualified for the Final to be played this Sunday at Valentine Sports Park.

Enfield last won the U16 Boys title in 1999 and now have the chance to repeat the club’s success 23 years later.

Rovers earnt the chance to represent Football Canterbury in the tournament by claiming the League Premiership, finishing ahead of second-placed Cooks River Titans by an incredible 18 competition points.

Having gone on to beat Balmain 3-0 in the Football Canterbury Grand Final, qualifying for the Champion of Champions Final gives the team the chance to win the treble (League Premiers, Grand Final Champions, and Champion of Champions Winners).

To qualify for the Champion of Champions Final, Enfield defeated Football South Coast Premiers, Figtree FC (2-0) and Manly Warringah Football Premiers, Seaforth FC (2-1) before their semi-final showdown with Lindfield (winner of the double at Northern Suburbs FA).

Enfield’s opposition in the final, Bosco FC, comes from the Sutherland Shire Football Association and qualified for the tournament by winning their league premiership by 11 points but did not make it to the Sutherland Shire Grand Final, being knocked out by St Patrick’s FC (2-1) in the semi-final.

Bosco FC’s cup run so far has included victories over Nepean champions and premiers, Emu Plains FC (2-1), winners of the double at Hills Football, Castle Hill United (2-1 after extra time), and winners of the double at Macarthur, Camden Tigers (3-1).

Lachlan Ritchie has scored six of Bosco’s seven goals.

If Enfield beat Bosco it will be consecutive victories fr Football Canterbury in the U16 Boys as Earlwood Wanderers are the defending champions, having won it in 2019 (2020 and 2021 cancelled due to Covid).
