Published Tue 14 Mar 2023

The grading lists for all competition have now been released for the upcoming 2023 Football Canterbury season.

Following an initial grading process, clubs were given the chance to appeal their position with the leagues now locked-in as the appeals process has finished.

Clubs are asked to carefully review documents as they may have a teams moved despite not lodging any appeal on grading. For any concerns or questions about the placement of your team, individuals must liaise directly with their clubs.

With the grades now finalised, work begins on fixtures which will be revealed in the near future.

Please note: U8-U11 ages undergo an automatic mid-season review where performance in the first half of the season is used to position teams for the second half of the season.

Surnames connected to junior teams have been removed for the safety of players. If you need clarification on which team you are with, please contact your club.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ALL AGE MEN

It is likely that your division is lower than you anticipated, this is not a mistake and it is not a relegation. It is a by-product of smaller league sizes created to avoid the number of double headers needed, as was decided by the clubs at last year’s Mode of Competition forum.

In 2022, many men’s leagues were ten team leagues. Due to the nature of ten team leagues, they leave no space for wet weather weekends: so whenever a match was washed out it forced teams to play double headers.

This season, most leagues are made up of six or eight teams (with a few twelve team leagues). This size allows for wet weather weekends to be planned, decreasing the chances of teams needing to play double headers.

Due to most leagues having less teams than last season, this pushes the excess teams down the funnel: meaning the lower down the chain you are, the more you are affected. Rest assured, the league you are in this season is comparable to the strength of the league you applied for.

For example, the winners of AA8 in 2022 are playing in AA9 this season. Likewise, the winners of AA10 in 2022 are playing in AA12 this season.
