Football Canterbury player selected in Young Matildas

Published Wed 09 Nov 2022

Former Earlwood Wanderers junior, Tahlia Franco has been selected in the Young Matildas squad that is currently competing in the Pacific Four Nations Tournament in Canberra.

A goalkeeper, Franco played for Earlwood in 2016 and 2017 and now plays for Sydney FC in the A-League Women’s competition.

The Pacific Four Nations Tournament is played in the nation's capital city, Canberra, where the senior women's national teams of Papua New Guinea, Fiji, and Solomon Islands, as well as the U20 Australian team are playing a round robin tournament format over three match days.

The Pacific Four Nations tournament has been made possible through a partnership with the Australian Government through the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade’s ‘PacificAus Sports’ program.

Australia and the Pacific share a rich history and deep love of sport and, through PacificAus Sports, Australia works with Pacific partners to unlock this this potential further and create new opportunities for our athletes to train and compete together.

Franco was on the bench for Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over Solomon Islands and will be looking to get game time when Australia take on Fiji on Friday.

All matches in the Pacific Four Nations Tournament will be streamed LIVE via the Football Australia YouTube account.
