Leah Blayney has named three Football Canterbury players in the Young Matildas squad for their 2024 AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup qualifying campaign in Vietnam in June.
The Round 2 Qualifiers have seen Australia drawn in Group A alongside hosts Vietnam, Iran and Lebanon with the matches to be played between 3 and 11 June 2023.
For the two top nations the prize will be qualification for the 2024 AFC U-20 Women's Asian Cup to be held in Uzbekistan from 3–16 March 2024.
Claudia Cicco, Tahlia Franco, and Daniela Galic have all been selected after playing for Football Canterbury clubs in their junior years.
Cicco, a centre back who played for Wellington Phoenix this season, played for Hurlstone Park Wanderers when she was a junior.
Franco – a goalkeeper who was with Sydney FC this season – grew-up playing for Earlwood Wanderers.
Galic, a shining light for Melbourne City in midfield this year, played for Burwood FC.
