Through a process of redevelopment, facilities and field surfaces across Football Canterbury grounds have seen vast improvement.
Earmarked several years ago as a problem area, there has been a big focus across the association in rebuilding and redeveloping field surfaces and ageing facilities.
After years of work, clubs across the association are now seeing improvements across the board: meaning more access and better surfaces for players across the region.
Football Canterbury now have a total of seven all-weather fields to ensure a perfect playing surface even if it’s raining. This means less games called off due to weather and a better playing experience for everyone.
It’s not just all-weather fields that have been improved either, with Henley Park’s two southern fields being completely resurfaced and Rudd Park’s grass fields being brought to a higher standard.
Football Canterbury now has all-weather pitches at:
- Australia Catholic University
- Lambert Park
- Majors Bay Reserve
- Rudd Park
- Strathfield Park (two pitches)
- Tempe Reserve
Pitch improvements have happened at the following grass fields over the past two years:
- Rudd Park
- Henley Park
- Rosedale Park
- Parry Park
- Bennett Park
- Ewen Park
Future works
The region’s investment to improving playing surfaces and facilities is not over yet with Earlwood Oval currently undergoing upgrades and the following work planned:
- $2.7 million dollars has been added to the Henley Park upgrade to ensure the two northern fields are improved
- $1 million dollars has been committed to upgrading the facilities at Ewen Park
- $300,000 is being put into Hammond Park
- Investigations into rebuilding Flockhart Park in Croydon Park
